
As the first in the country to pass beneath the Panama Canal, over than 2km of tunneling has been completed on Panama Metro’s Line 3, and Panama Metro described this 4.5km-long tunnel is as an unprecedented milestone.

The location of this tunnel is inder the Panama Canal at 65m below sea level.
The number of installed lining rings since digging has been commenced a year ago is more than 1,000, whereas previous month TBM Panama achieved the erection of 149 rings, corresponding to 298m of tunnel advance in one month.
Considering that the Balboa Station is the location that TBM Panama is due to undergo scheduled maintenance early next year before completing the final section of the tunnel, excavation continues to advance towards this station.
With a 13.51m diameter and 93m length, the mix shield TBM was designed to adapt to the unique geological conditions of the Canal area.
