Breakthrough made on Forbach pumped storage power plant

As the longest tunnel on the project with 1.01km length, the main tunnel between the cavern water reservoir and the outlet structure on the Rudolf Fettweis power plant in Forbach, Germany, was achieved a breakthrough by Porr Tunnelbau.

The date of commencing concrete work in the cavern was the beginning of September, whereas the digging process in the cavern is expected to be fully completed this week.

While the Porr tunnel construction team broke through from the cavern to the Schwarzenbach underwater tunnel in August, the raise boring work began on the Murg shaft a few days later.

Porr is converting the more than 100-year-old run-of-river power plant into a pumped storage hydro facility for EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg.

The scheduled date for launching this project is 2027.
