Preparing Túnel Madri for next section of Barcelona Metro

Following arrival of the TBM at the Mandri shaft earlier this month, the Túnel Madri consortium has celebrated the final breakthrough of the Zona Universitaria-Mandri section of Line 9 of the Barcelona Metro.

Currentll, excavation of the 1.6km of the Mandri-Lesseps section, the final part of Line 9, will be up to the consortium of Acciona, Dragados, Comsa, and Sorigué. In order to overcoming the challenges of this section, the TBM is first due to undergo maintenance and changes.

The location of commencing the works was launch shaft of the Zona Universitaria station, where the 12m-diameter EPBM Hospi began to bore the 3.4km tunnel, which has an internal diameter of 11m.

As the longest metro line in Europe, stretching 50km and serving 52 stations, the Line 9 of the Barcelona Metro is now linking Barcelona airport with the city centre.
