Tunneling is nearly complete on Barcelona metro’s Line 9.
According to the post of TyLin, a designer and construction supervisor of the project, in LinkedIn, the HK S-442 TBM after completing 42.5km of the 44km tunnel broke through on the Mandri shaft in previous week.
“Only a central section of 1.5km remains to be drilled, which will connect the two ends of the already operational line,” said TyLin.
With 12m diameter, the HK S-442 is an EPBM has a length of 100m.
The date of resuming excavation process after a 10-year hiatus, was spring 2022, while traversing different types of terrain and overcoming various geological obstacles, from the resistance and abrasiveness of massive granite in most sections, to unstable slates in an urban context like Barcelona.
Responsibility of constructing this tunnel is up to UTE Túnel Mandri, a consortium of Dragados SA, Acciona, Comsa, and Sorigué.
