As a house of railway workshops and depots, Patio Morro Grande links to the future Brasilândia Station and this makes a new phase in the development of this section of the project by Acciona thta has completed an important tunnel connection in the construction of São Paulo´s Metro Line 6.
Including over than 560m main underpass, rest of the 1.85km tunnels connecting the two stops are galleries that are connecting the main track with Patio Morro Grande. Considering that this connection is where the control and operation centre, located in Patio Morro Grande, and the line’s tunnel network converge, Acciona says it is crucial and integrates the heart of the Line 6 project.
Following completion of this phase, construction of the rail yard is almost 65% complete. So far, more than 850 tons of metallic structures have been installed in the maintenance and parking areas for the 22 trains that will run through Line 6, corresponding to a space of more than 213,000m². In addition, the installation of the more than 8.7km of permanent track in Patio Morro Grande has been completed.
In order to building the Brasilândia Station, located at a depth of 32m, the quantity of excavated materials is more than 160,000m³,whereas approximately 53,000m³ of concrete and 9,000 tons of steel were used.
Connecting the Brasilândia neighbourhood, in the North Area, with the São Joaquim Station, in the Central region of the city, Line 6 of the São Paulo Metro is 15km long with 15 stations. Through this line travel times will be 23 minutes compared with the 1.5-hour journey by bus today. The metro line is expected to serve 630,000 passengers a day.
As the largest infrastructure project in Latin America, this project is a public-private partnership between the São Paulo state government and Concesionaria Linha Universidade.
