The ceremony of final breakthrough for the 12.6km-long water transport tunnel in the Mularroya dam project in the province of Zaragoza, was held by the joint venture Mularroya, composed of Acciona and Sacyr, on March.
Being used for filling of the reservoir Mularroya, transporting surplus water from the Jalon River to the Grío River basin, as well as maximizing the use of the area’s water resources for irrigation, the TBM Creta is a Herrenknetch model M-949-M (diameter of 3.55 m) machine.
While the date of commencing excavation of the tunnel was 24 November 2020, prior to the start of the mechanized excavation, 61 m of conventional excavation had been completed.
With an internal diameter of 2.9 m, the underground tunnel traverses the city of Calatayud, Paracuellos de la Ribera, El Frasno, and Morata de Jalon, with a capacity to carry 8 cubic metres of water per second.
Following that Creta breaks through, the final stage of the work on this project starts, while responsibilit of the technical assistance is up to the Joint Venture Jabacin, composed of Typsa and Drace, Geocisa.
