Ersmark Tunnel – Implenia Wins North Bothnia Line Tunnel Contract

Ersmark Tunnel - North Bothnia Line Tunnel Route

The planning and building contract of the Ersmark tunnel in northern Sweden, was granted to Implenia by Swedish Transport Authority.

A 1.6km-long tunnel between Fäboberget and Ersmarksberget on the North Bothnia rail line, as well as a service tunnel, various concrete structures, water and wastewater systems and drainage mats, are the contents of this project, whereas access roads and staging areas are also being built. Determined date for commencing the works is May and will take about two years to complete.

With 270km length the North Bothnia Line is a new freight and passenger railway between Umeå and Luleå that is due to enable faster, safer and more sustainable transport. It will serve as an extension of the existing Bothnia high-speed railway line which opened in 2010.

The North Bothnia Line and the entire Bothnian corridor is included in the core network corridor Scandinavian-Mediterranean, or ScanMed. The starting date of construction was 2018 and the line is planned to be completed in 2030.
