The first stage – 4.3km long – of the R4 Presov-Northern Bypass expressway in Slovakia is set for commencement this summer.
According to Slovakia’s National Motorway Company, NDS, paving has begun on many stretches, noise barriers are being pitched, and the Bikos Tunnel is witnessing the installation of lighting and ventilation systems.
The 1.1km twin-tube Bikos Tunnel has 700m of noise barriers and three bridges, all less than 1km long. The tunnel has been built operating the New Austrian Tunneling Method and has concrete road surfaces. Nevertheless, excavating was completed in mid-2021.
The corporation of Vahostav-SK and TuCon began work on the first phase of the northern bypass of Presov in the summer of 2019 – a contract value of about €143 million.
In addition, the R4 stretch on the west side of Presov will be linked to the D1 motorway. Building the 7.9km southwest Presov Bypass on the D1 motorway has been underway since the summer of 2017 and is planned for completion by the summer of 2021.
As reported, it is being constructed by the consortium of Eurovia SK, Metrostav and Doprastav for approximately €356 million.
