The excavation process of a new sewer beneath the A65 for Yorkshire Water, has been commenced by a remote-controlled tunneling machine.
While in order to decrease sewage discharges into the River Wharfe during periods of bad weather, this sewer is planned, following its completion in January 2024 it is due to reduce the frequency of sewage discharges from Rivadale CSO by 40% and halve the volume of discharges.
The location of this 800m-long sewer will be 5-8m underground.
According to Ben Roche, director of wastewater at Yorkshire Water: “Using trenchless technology enabled the boring under the A65 and laying the sewer to be done remotely, significantly reducing disruption in Ilkley.”
