Japan Commits Rs 7,084 Crore Funding for Three Projects in India

Japan has committed Rs 7,084.5 crore to India for three infrastructure projects, including Patna Metro Rail Construction Project and Rajasthan Water Sector Livelihood Improvement Project.

As reported, notes were exchanged between Rajat Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, and Japan Ambassador to India Suzuki Hiroshi in this regard.

Japan would finance the Patna Metro Rail Construction Project (I) of Rs 5,509 crore (JPY 98.612 billion), the Project for Forest and Biodiversity Conservation for Climate Change Response in West Bengal of Rs520 crore (JPY 9.308 billion) and the Rajasthan Water Sector Livelihood Improvement Project (II) of Rs 1,055.53 crore (JPY 18.894 billion).

Patna Metro Rail Construction Project seeks to manage the increase in traffic demand in the capital city of Bihar by building the new metro corridors 1 & 2, as a result of contributing to the advancement of the urban environment and development of the economy plus mitigation of climate change.

An official claimed that the project for Forest and Biodiversity Conservation for Climate Change Response in West Bengal intends to mitigate and adjust to climate change, conserve and restore ecosystems by ecosystem-based climate change measures, biodiversity conservation and restoration, livelihood improvement activities and institutional strengthening, thereby contributing to sustainable socio-economic development in the state.

In addition, Rajasthan Water Sector Livelihood Improvement Project desires to enhance the livelihoods of farmers plus promote gender mainstreaming in the agriculture and irrigation sector in the State by enhancing water use efficiency and agricultural productivity through the improvement of current irrigation facilities.

Japan and India have had a fruitful and long history of bilateral development cooperation since 1958.

In the last few years, the economic partnership between India and Japan has steadily advanced, and this deal strengthens the Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan.
