New contracts awarded for Toyo Tunnel project

Four Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses organized by BTS (the British Tunnelling Society) in conjunction with the University of Warwick are now accessible and designed to improve knowledge of tunnelling within the framework of CPD.

Each of the four CPD courses will be online within three days at specific dates over the next few months. Each of them will include a combination of formal lectures continuing totally 12-15 hours, with the remaining time taken up by discussion, Question & Answer and ‘walkthroughs’ of workshop examples. At the end of each course, attendees will have a certificate for three days’ CPD.

The four courses are as follow:

  • Introduction to Tunnelling (27-29 April 2021)
    This course has the purpose to share a fundamental understanding of tunnelling in all the major geomaterials.
    the main speaker will be Prof Colin Eddie from University of Warwick and Managing Director of CECL Global.
  • Health & Safety in Tunnelling (25-27 May 2021)
    the main speaker will be Dr Donald Lamont, Hyperbaric & Tunnel Safety
    This course focuses on sharing a comprehensive introduction to health and safety in tunnelling.
  • Tunnel Design (15-17 June 2021)
    the main speaker will be Dr Alan Bloodworth, Course Director, MSc Tunnelling and Underground Space, University of Warwick.
    This course has the aim to share attendees with the fundamental knowledge and conceptual framework to be able to undertake tunnel design in soft ground.
  • Finite Element Analysis in Tunnelling (13-15 July 2021)
    the main speaker is going to be Dr Andrew Mar, Technical Director CECL Global.
    This course seeks to give a comprehensive introduction to the finite element method as applied to tunnelling.

All of the courses will take place through the Microsoft Teams platform beginning each day at 9am BST and finishing around 4.30pm. The fee of each course is £500, discounted to £100 for students who provide evidence of their status from tutors or their university.
