Concluding a contract for build pumped storage hydro plant in Norway by Skanska

In order to constructing a pumped storage hydropower plant in Vestland County, Skanska has signed a contract with Norwegian company Hydro, which’s value is NOK950m (US$93.16m) contract and it includes construction of an underground power station with associated tunnel and infrastructure work. While the total tunnel system is due to be almost 9km, a pressure tunnel of around 8km will be built between the Fivlemyrane and Illvatn reservoirs. Also construction of a new permanent road, access tunnel to the transformer hall and station hall, as well as a surge system measuring 250m in length, are the contents of this project.

Parts of the project area are roadless and require helicopter transport.

The source of providing energy potential for Illvatn pumped storage plant will be between the Fivlemyrane and Illvatn reservoirs. The advantages of this facility is due to be increasing the storage capacity in Illvatn by 90 million m3 and contributing to more efficient use of water resources by pumping water up to Illvatn during the summer months or when energy prices are low.

The annual capacity of this new power plant for providing new electricity production will be approximately 84GWh.
