São Paulo Metro TBM passes FAT

Being designed for EPB and open mode by CREG, the second TBM for São Paulo Metro’s Line 2-Green expansion has passed its Factory Acceptance Test and it has the capacity to make a daily advance up to 15m in soil and 10m in rock.

Aa one of the largest ever used in metro construction in Brazil, this TBM’s nickname is Big Armadillo ans has an 11.67m diameter, 133m length and weights 2,600 tons.

It is going to dig 7km of tunnel between Penha and Dutra, on the border with Guarulhos.

While the scheduled date for shipping this TBM to Brazil is later this year, its assembly and the start of excavation are planned for the first half of next year.

By boring the section between the Rapadura Complex and the VSE Falchi Gianini,TBM Cora Coralina has completed the project’s first phase. In September, the cutterhead was lowered into the shaft at Penha Station for the TBM’s second phase from Penha to the Rapadura Complex.
