J Murphy & Sons, an engineering and construction contractor, have secured its initial project on Severn Trent Water’s investment framework.
The project is worth £33m and contains the detailed design, commissioning and build of four surface water and foul water sewer diversions in Birmingham, ahead of the upcoming High Speed 2 railway works.
Murphy, which was appointed as one of Severn Trent’s framework contractors by AMP7 regulatory period last year, is presently scheduled to initiate work early next year. It is expected to have the project completed by July 2022. The project contains a series of small tunnels plus the design of a new tunnel with a diameter of three meters.
“We’re really pleased to be on the framework and secure our first project for Murphy. Our team is looking forward to getting started on the ground and using our expertise to get the job done safely and efficiently. The work we’re doing with Severn Trent is vital to support essential infrastructure for their customers in the Birmingham area,” stated the managing director of Murphy’s water business in the UK, Tony Wilson.
