While the digging process on the Brenner Base Tunnel’s eastern main tube has been completed, currently seven of the project’s nine TBMs have completed their drives for the Italian-Austrian railway tunnels.
In order to finishing the drive and marking the completion of mechanised excavation for H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons construction lot, TBM Lilia broke through in the municipality of Navis on 6 October.
TBM Lilia with 160m length has bored 8.1km through rock and encountered several fault zones, from her launch in May 2023 in the Ahrental Valley, whereas she arrived in the area of the existing IRIS auxiliary access route to the adjacent contract section H53 Pfons-Brenner. Lilia’s twin TBM, Ida, arrived at the same location in the west main tunnel tube at the end of August.
Now excavation of the east and west tunnels on the H53 Pfons-Brenner section of the railway towards Innsbruck is respectively up to TBMs Wilma and Olga.
