The contract for the detailed design of civil works shafts and tunnels for Section 2 of Santiago metro’s Line 8, has been granted to Systra Subterra.
Stretching 4.3km from Chile Spain station to Los Leones station, this project involves the design and planning of tunnel construction and ventilation shafts; development of galleries to link different sections of the tunnels; detailed engineering for the excavation and construction of the tunnels; as well as complementary civil works, including all structures and systems the operation of the metro line.
With the aim of improving links between the north-east and south-east of the Chilean capital, Line 8 is due to be entirely underground and will pass through six municipalities. Also with total length of 19km this project will bring transport closer to around 2 million residents.
According to Systra Subterra CEO José Miguel Galera: “This is a key new project for Systra in Chile, where our underground and systems experts are carrying out several major assignments on railway lines and five motorway tunnels.”
Considering the works on plans in 1968 and that it has been involved in the design of most of the lines, Systra has historic connections with the Santiago metro.
