Dubai Seeks Firms for US$22bn Tunnels Project

Emirate of Dubai

According to our sister publication Meed reports, in order to providing project management consultancy for deep tunnels and sewage treatment plants across the emirate of Dubai, Dubai Municipality has invited expressions of interest.

The deadline for submitting their interest by companies is August 11 and will then need to submit prequalification forms by August 25.

Being developed as a public-private partnership, the scheme is known as the Deep Tunnels Portfolio and is due to involve developing assets across the city of Dubai and Hatta.

While construction of two sets of deep tunnels terminating at two terminal pump stations located at sewerage treatment plants (STPs) in Warsan and Jebel Ali is a subset of this project, in Hatta a conventional sewage and drainage collection system and STPs is slated to be built.

Additionally, this scheme also includes recycled water distribution systems connected to the STPs.

Dubai’s Executive Council approved the project in June and said: “It would require an investment of about AED80bn (US$22bn). The project has been designed to serve the needs of the Dubai population for the next 100 years in alignment with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.”
