Sicilian Railway Project – Two more TBMs Pass FAT

In order to constructing tunnels for Sicily’s Palermo-Catania railway, two more TBMs have passed their Factory Acceptance Test.

Deploying location of these two EPBMs will be Lot 3 Lercara-Caltanissetta Xirbi, which involves the detailed design and construction of 47km of new railway line, including 22km of tunnels.

While currently four of the five TBMs for Lot 3 have completed testing, advancing the Lot 3 is up to consortium of Webuild, Ghella and Impresa Pizzarotti.

As a part of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana’s (RFI) wider program, the Lercara-Caltanissetta Xirbi section is to modernise the Palermo-Catania-Messina railway.
