As a significant landmark for the extension of Stockholm’s Blue Line, blasting has concluded at Gullmarsplan station. The branching station of this expansion is Kungstradgarden and is due to have two arms: one heading east to Nacka and the other southward through Gullmarsplan to Sockenplan, linking with the Hagsatra branch to become part of the Blue Line, whereas it is set to introduce six entirely new stations: Sofia, Hammarby canal, Sickla, Jarla, Nacka, and Slakthusomradet.
The subsets of the southward direction, that is slated to be inaugurated 2030, are:
- Crafting a new level beneath the Green Line’s platform at Gullmarsplan, accessed by high-speed elevators due to its depth of 70 meters below ground.
- Erecting a new station in the Slakthus area, replacing the existing Globen and Enskede gård stations.
Considering that completion of blasting process of over than 1,400 meters of track and service tunnels among Sodermalm and Globen, was the latest milestone before the holidays, currently Gullmarsplan station sees all rock removed, making way for a new platform, 70 meters beneath ground level, which will integrate with the existing subway. Five high-speed elevators will be used for accessing to this platform, reaching the ticket hall in almost 40 seconds.
In order to providing rapid lifts at Gullmarsplan station, the platform, and the ventilation tower in Koleraparken, the blasting out of the shaft has also taken place alongside these achievements. The ventilation tower is designed to serve as a habitat for small birds and bumblebees.
The new phase of work commences now and the station is due to witness the encasement of lifts within concrete molds, while in the tunnels and on the platform, preparations will be underway for future installation work.
