According to the update that the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project team have releases about the completed works in 2023, remarkable advance was made on the North-South Corridor T2D Project preparing the project for a critically important 2024.

While in order to helpig inform the detailed design of the tunnels and lowered motorway, more than 700 boreholes over 18 kilometres have been excavated until now as part of ground investigation works, over than five kilometres of utility service relocations have been completed, clearing the way for main construction to start.

January 2023 was the date of commencing procurement for the main construction works and for delivering the project two consortia shortlisted, whereas the successful consortia to be announced in the third quarter of 2024.

Responsibility of building, ownership and runing the Tonsley East substation was up to SA Power Networks and the process was started in March 2023 and is due to be completed in early 2024.

As a source for supplying electricity to the tunnel boring machines and the two parallel 4.5-kilometre-long Southern Tunnels once they are completed in 2030, this facility will constitute part of the project’s southern laydown area.

More than three kilometres of South Road in both directions have been resurfaced between Bennet Avenue, Melrose Park and Glengarry Avenue, Glandore, with the section from Rothesay Avenue to Lloyd Street, St Marys to be completed in late January 2024.

Removing the existing pavement and replacing it with new asphalt to ensure long-term safety as well as integrity of these sections ahead of the start of main construction works, are subsets of resurfacing works along South Road.

Also , as the first two of five interim noise walls along an 850-metre section of York Avenue, Clovelly Park have been installed, the scheduled date for installing of the remaining three walls is end of 2024.

Additionally, in order to minimising any potential noise impacts for local residents and businesses,more interim noise walls will be installed in other areas along the project alignment.

The pedestrian crossing outside Black Forest Primary School has been upgraded, providing greater protection for pedestrians, including school children, waiting to cross the road.

Replacing the old pedestrian fence, was done by installing concrete barriers and steel crash cushions and the pedestrian ramp has also been upgraded.

Works are slated to begin in 2024 to relocate Warriappendi School to bigger and better premises and the Torrensville Bowling Club to a new standalone home.
