Completion of Sea Outfall Tunnel for Umm Al Hayman Wastewater Treatment Project in Kuwait

Umm Al Hayman Wastewater Treatment Plant

As a part of the Umm Al Hayman Wastewater Treatment Project in Kuwait, the 1,960 m Sea Outfall tunnel with an internal diameter of 2.2m was completed by the joint venture between Al Hassanain (AHC) and Joseph Gallagher Limited (JGL) on 10 May 2022. The Herrenknecht AG AVN 2200mm diameter machine will now rest in its current location whilst the tunnel is stripped, cleaned, connected through in the launch shaft, and then flooded to allow recovery of the 100 t TBM from beneath the sea bed.

In November 2019 the contract was concluded, while the financial closure completed in July 2020 allowing for the project to commence in August 2020. HSBC Middle East was responsible for financing the project.
