The 21.3 MW Thulo Khola Hydropower Project made a breakthrough in its tunnel on 9 December. According to the project, the 2,700-meter-long tunnel has been built for the power plant being constructed in Kuinemangale of Raghuganga Rural Municipality-8, Myagdi. Chief of the project, Rabindra Hamal, claimed that they completed the breakthrough of the tunnel in 20 months.

The project is currently building a 600-meter-long penstock pipe. While the 200-meter horizontal shaft construction is finished, the 100-meter-long vertical shaft is half-done. Mr. Hamal declared that they would complete the installation of the shafts in the next 25 days.

Altogether, a total of 70 percent of the construction of the project has been achieved. The civil works of the powerhouse are at its last stage. According to Hamal, the project is preparing for the hydromechanical and electromechanical equipment installation correspondingly.

The project aims to begin electricity production in the next eight months. However, the generated electricity is said to be supplied to the Tiple Rahughat Substation of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

The project’s construction total investment is estimated to be Rs 3.60 billion, of which equity shares will cover 30 percent, while bank loans will fund the remaining 70 percent.
