Sydney University – Commissioning the Tunneling Major

Tunneling Operation

Australia’s first major in tunneling and underground engineering is slated to be launched at University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

Currently the applications are open to commence the course at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in February.

In order to ensuring students, receive real-world and in-field practice as part of the learning experience, the major is intended at industry professionals and has been designed in consultation with industry experts.

Students are due to undertake projects to develop knowledge and skills to understand new technologies and enhance the design, operation, and optimization of tunneling and underground engineering.

“The Tunneling and Underground Engineering program presents an exceptional opportunity for students to attain practical insights and real-world experience in the field of tunneling and underground engineering,” said course co-ordinator Dr Haleh Rasekh.

She continued: “By incorporating industry expertise into the curriculum, students will develop the knowledge and professional skills essential to this sector.”

The curriculum of Students is slated to be study of practical skills in modern site investigations, planning, design, construction, management, TBMs, trenchless technologies, safety and sustainability aspects of tunneling and underground engineering projects.

With the aim of developing knowledge in tunneling and underground engineering, the course is designed for civil engineers and industry practitioners, while also engineers interested in changing their career focus to tunneling and underground engineering are invited to these courses.

The major is available for several post-graduate courses.
