In order to advancing the Line C of the Toulouse Metro, the civil works contract has been granted to a consortium of French construction companies Eiffage and NGE.
Being located between the Laporte ancillary structure and Raynal station, the Line C’s Lot 2 contract includes construction of an 8.4km tunnel, six stations, five intersection structures and a tunnel linked to the maintenance area and worth €590m (US$633.9m). Meanwhile, the public transport authority for greater Toulouse, Tisséo, has been awarded this contract and it also includes construction of nine safety galleries connecting shafts to the tunnel.
While the stake share of Eiffage is 65% in the consortium and NGE 35%., the companies say innovative techniques are due to be used for the project, including two next-generation TBMs and, in 95% of the project, fiber-reinforced concrete segments using less steel.
Additionally, Effiage’s Carasol soil analysis technique is slated to be used by the consortium, which takes just two hours to analyze excavated materials rather than the 3–5 days with traditional methods, decreasing temporary storage and thus rotation of lorries.
Recovery of almost 90% of the excavated material is a part of environmental commitments of the consortium, whereas through the use of primarily renewable energy, clean vehicles, as well as eco-designed installations, it has given undertakings to reduce the project’s carbon footprint.
Although the determined date for commencing the project is this spring, handover of the infrastructure is scheduled for late 2025 and the new line is due to be launched in 2028.
An Implenia/Demathieu Bard Construction joint venture has won the contract for Lot 3 of Toulouse Metro Line C, while it includes building 3.8km of tunnel, as well as four underground stations at a depth of 24-39m, and three ancillary structures.
