Grand Paris Express - Breakthrough on Line 16

Following breaking through of TBM Mireille in the shaft at Mare au Chanvre, over than half of tunneling has been completed on Line 16 of the Grand Paris Express.

Linking Chelles with the municipality of Sevran and marking almost 83% completion of Lot 2, the excavation completes the first 5.3km of the tunnel work.

Also TBM Houda, is the second TBM on this section of the metro line in northern-eastern Paris and is travelling from the opposite direction and approximately 4km of its 5.8km journey has been dug. It is expected to arrive at the shaft in the autumn.

While construction of 11km out of a total of 29km of tunnels for Line 16 is up to Webuild and NGE, they are also going to build four of the 10 stations along the line: Aulnay-sous-Bois, Sevran-Beaudottes, Sevran-Livry and Clichy-Montfermeil.

The entire line will serve the Paris department of Seine-Saint-Denis, which comprises 16 municipalities. The number of people who are scheduled to be transported by this trains running the line are is 200,000 passengers per day.

As the Europe’s largest sustainable transport project, the Grand Paris Express will extend the French capital’s metro and light rail network by 200km, improving connections between the city center and the periphery.
