{"id":7853,"date":"2022-07-16T11:19:27","date_gmt":"2022-07-16T11:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=7853"},"modified":"2022-07-16T11:19:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-16T11:19:27","slug":"significant-tbm-breakthrough-on-auckland-nz-city-rail-link-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=7853","title":{"rendered":"Significant TBM Breakthrough on Auckland (NZ) City Rail Link Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align; justify;\">On 15 July 2022, TBM Dame Whina Cooper achieved great advancement and broke through at Karangahape on its way to excavate the second and final bored tunnel to midtown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align; justify;\">Commencing from the Link Alliance Mt Eden Station construction site, this drive so far has taken three months, while the machine has travelled 900m, placed 526 segment rings and removed 74,000 tons of spoil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align; justify;\">Before advancing its journey, the TBM is due to be pushed forward through the 230-metre tunnel cavern to the site of the other station entrance at Beresford Square.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin: auto;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/City-Rail-Link-Progress-Illustration.gif\" alt=\"City Rail Link Progress Illustration\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align; justify;\">The expected date for TBM&#8217;s arrival at Mayoral Drive is around September.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align; justify;\">The advantages of City Rail Link project, which is a 3.45 km underground rail link with parallel tunnels reaching depths of 32 meters beneath Auckland, will be doubling rail capacity by linking Mt Eden to Britomart, whereas redeveloping process of two new stations, Aotea and Karangahape, that are being constructed with the former Mt Eden Station will also be done by giving access to the City Rail Link and the Western Line.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align; justify;\">In order to following the machine\u2019s progress please click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digcrl.co.nz\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 15 July 2022, TBM Dame Whina Cooper achieved great advancement and broke through at Karangahape on its way to excavate the second and final bored tunnel to midtown.
