{"id":5685,"date":"2021-12-18T12:50:37","date_gmt":"2021-12-18T12:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=5685"},"modified":"2021-12-18T12:50:37","modified_gmt":"2021-12-18T12:50:37","slug":"confirming-uks-largest-tunnel-boring-machine-for-silvertown-tunnel-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=5685","title":{"rendered":"Confirming UK\u2019s Largest Tunnel Boring Machine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following completion of its ultimate tests, the largest tunnel-boring machine (TBM) to be used in the UK is being surrendered for the Silvertown Tunnel project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Having 11.91 meters&#8217; diameter, the intended TBM is larger than those used on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tideway.london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tideway<\/a> (8.85 meters), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cross rail<\/a> (7.1 meters), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hs2.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HS2<\/a> (10.26 meters), while on 2 December it has passed the final certification tests. The transporting process of this TBM to the site is currently underway in sections by lorry and barge and excavating is set to commence in the first quarter of next year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In order to tunnel a 1.4km tunnel beneath the River Thames between Greenwich Peninsula and Silvertown, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riverlinx.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riverlinx<\/a> construction consortium, comprised of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bamnuttall.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bam Nuttall<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrovial<\/a> Construction, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skecoplant.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SK Ecoplant<\/a> will use this machine.
