{"id":5422,"date":"2021-11-28T12:52:51","date_gmt":"2021-11-28T12:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=5422"},"modified":"2021-11-28T12:52:51","modified_gmt":"2021-11-28T12:52:51","slug":"initial-works-contract-for-us6-6-billion-australian-suburban-rail-loop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=5422","title":{"rendered":"Initial Works Contract for US$6.6 Billion Australian Suburban Rail Loop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The AUD$500 million (US$357 million) Initial Works and Early Works package for <a href=\"https:\/\/bigbuild.vic.gov.au\/projects\/suburban-rail-loop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SRL<\/a> in Melbourne has been awarded to the contractor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laingorourke.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laing O\u2019Rourke<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It will make the sites ready ahead of twin-tunnel boring for the 26km eastern section of the Suburban Rail Loop, set to run from Box Hill south to Cheltenham, connecting six new stations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Suburban Rail Loop has been called a \u201conce-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the future liveability, productivity, and connectivity of Melbourne.\u201d <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This contract is a part of the large package of works that the government of Victoria state, where Melbourne is placed, is supplying to develop transport connections. Victoria is supplying new funding of A$9.3 billion (US$6.6 billion) to construct SRL East, which it has the purpose to open for operations in 2035.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Work begins next year and is anticipated to generate 800 jobs \u2013 approximately 14% of the total hours is going to be done by Victorian apprentices, trainees, or cadets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Daniel Andrews, the Victoria\u2019s Premier stated: \u201cWe told the Victorian community we will get this project started \u2013 and we\u2019re getting on with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also asserted: \u201cThe Suburban Rail Loop is not just a rail line \u2013 it delivers opportunities for Victorians to live close to work, more access to education and services and supports thousands of new jobs at a time our state needs them most.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The AUD$500 million (US$357 million) Initial Works and Early Works package for SRL in Melbourne has been awarded to the contractor Laing O\u2019Rourke.
