{"id":3936,"date":"2021-07-09T00:00:01","date_gmt":"2021-07-09T00:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=3936"},"modified":"2021-07-09T00:00:01","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T00:00:01","slug":"bechtel-bill-for-crossrail-work-reaches-531m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=3936","title":{"rendered":"Bechtel bill for Crossrail work reaches \u00a3531m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Payments to Bechtel, the Crossrail delivery partner, have passed \u00a3500m barrier which is half-a-billion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Figures and tables in the newest NAO (National Audit Office) report on the project presents that between the start of the contracts in 2009 and 31 March 2021, \u00a3531m has been paid to Bechtel by Crossrail Ltd.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project management specialist\u2019s original contract worth was \u00a3400 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Transcend (a consultant JV), which is the programme partner of the project and comprise of Nichols Group, Aecom and Jacobs, has also been paid \u00a3127m till March in its role.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The newest National Audit Office progress report puts the latest Crossrail final cost estimate at \u00a318.9bn, after the effect of Covid-19 added another \u00a3289m to the bill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The full extent of cost hikes on 19 of the project\u2019s 36 main construction works contracts was also approved as per the table below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3937 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/in-text-300x222.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"682\" height=\"505\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most of the works on the project is finished but train testing is already fall behind the schedule.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCrossrail was further from completion than anyone understood when the Department, TfL and Crossrail Ltd reset the programme in 2019. The problems we identified in our previous report have been difficult to address and have continued to affect the programme,\u201d said Gareth Davies, the head of the National Audit Office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also asserted: \u201cThere are now encouraging signs that Crossrail is in a more stable position.
