{"id":2937,"date":"2021-02-17T07:35:25","date_gmt":"2021-02-17T07:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=2937"},"modified":"2021-02-17T07:35:25","modified_gmt":"2021-02-17T07:35:25","slug":"latest-tunneling-experts-in-turin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=2937","title":{"rendered":"Latest tunneling experts in Turin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italy\u2019s Politecnico di Torino, best known for its Post Graduate Masters\u2019 course in Tunnelling and Tunnel Boring Machines, is starting a new MSc course track to foreign students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Professor Daniele Peila, who is responsible for the courses states \u201cOur Tunnelling and TBM course is only open to students who already have an MSc or who have professional experience,\u201d he also adds \u201cWe are getting lots of requests from students with Bachelors\u2019 degrees, who can\u2019t be admitted to that course but who want to get a grounding in geo-engineering and tunnelling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The MSc course in Geo-Engineering has only been taught in Italian so far, but it will now be taught in English by the Politecnico di Torino. This Geo-Engineering Master, researched over two years, includes site investigations, rock and soil engineering, the environmental and social effects of development projects, the sustainable use of energy and the risks of climate change. The Geo-Engineering MSc track could then lead onto the Masters in Tunnelling and TBMs, states Peila.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Peila furthermore asserts \u201cDue to the importance given today to the enviromental impact of the industry, this track has been inserted and into the Masters\u2019 Degree Programme of Environmental and Land Engineering, an existing programme at Politecnico di Torino,\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both courses at the Politecnico de Torino will be delivered through a mix of face-to-face and remote teaching. Over the past 12 months, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Peila and his colleagues have been forced to teach remotely, and this has provided lots of valuable lessons on how to create an effective blended learning offer, says Peila.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Peila aims to invite students from around the world to the new Geo-Engineering Masters programme: \u201cAs well as students from emerging economies, I am also hoping to see people from the US and Canada, where going to university is very expensive,\u201d he says. \u201cIf they come to Italy, it is less expensive to study and they will eat very well!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the next academic year, both courses will commence.
