These conditions placed considerable demands on the machine\u2019s cutting tools and excavation systems.<\/p>\n<p>The alignment also crossed multiple fault fracture zones characterised by fragmented and unstable rock, increasing the risks of ground collapse and groundwater ingress.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Customised TBM Design for Challenging Ground<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>To address the demanding geological conditions and accommodate underground assembly, CRCHI conducted several design reviews to develop a customised gripper TBM for the project.<\/p>\n<p>The machine incorporates several features designed to support excavation in hard rock, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>High-power cutterhead drive<\/strong> for demanding rock conditions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heavy-duty, wear-resistant disc cutters<\/strong> to withstand abrasive granite and gneiss.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High-capacity thrust system<\/strong> to provide the required excavation forces.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Efficient muck removal system<\/strong> to support continuous excavation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Modular structural design<\/strong> to facilitate underground assembly and improve operational reliability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The customised design was developed to meet the project\u2019s geological requirements while addressing the logistical challenges associated with assembling the machine underground.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>On-Site Technical Support<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>CRCHI provided dedicated on-site technical support throughout the operation.
