Phase 1 will run approximately 30km from Al Shanouf Road in Sharjah to Dubai\u2013Al Ain Road. The 12-lane corridor will include approximately 55 lane-km of at-grade roads, 2.5km of tunnels and 21km of bridges and ramps.<\/p>\n
Dubai\u2019s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the new infrastructure will provide capacity for up to 24,000 vehicles\/hour across both directions and cut journey times along the section from 35 minutes to around 14 minutes.<\/p>\n
The works will also widen Dubai\u2013Al Ain Road from three to four lanes in each direction between Emirates Road and Lehbab Road and include upgrades to four major intersections.<\/p>\n
Phase 2 will continue the corridor approximately 50km from Dubai\u2013Al Ain Road to Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi. It will also provide a 12-lane highway, incorporating approximately 190 lane-km of at-grade roads, 3.5km of tunnels and 157km of bridges and ramps.<\/p>\n
Together, the two phases will therefore provide around 6km of tunnelling across the 80km corridor. RTA has not yet provided details of the individual tunnel structures, construction methods or procurement arrangements.<\/p>\n
The route will pass several major infrastructure and development sites, including Al Maktoum International Airport and the Etihad Rail route, as well as the Al Marmoom and Al Wohoosh desert conservation reserves.<\/p>\n
RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer said the corridor is intended in part to divert through traffic, particularly trucks, away from urban areas and reduce pressure on existing routes.<\/p>\n
The authority expects Phase 2 to cut journey times on its section from around 50 minutes to 24 minutes. Once complete, the Fourth Corridor will form a new strategic connection between Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, complementing Sheikh Zayed\/Al Ittihad Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
