{"id":20474,"date":"2026-09-14T10:03:51","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T10:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=20474"},"modified":"2026-09-14T10:23:59","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T10:23:59","slug":"skanksa-to-upgrade-worlds-longest-road-tunnel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=20474","title":{"rendered":"Skanksa to upgrade world\u2019s longest road tunnel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kanska has been appointed to upgrade <a href=\"https:\/\/nwegeo.com\/laerdal-tunnel-norway-longest-road-tunnel-in-the-world\/\">Norway\u2019s L\u00e6rdal Tunnel<\/a> \u2013 the world\u2019s longest road tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>The 24.5km-long tunnel is a key transport corridor between eastern and western Norway.<\/p>\n<p>The NOK1.6bn (\u20ac150m) contract awarded by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen) covers extensive rehabilitation works and upgrades to technical and safety systems.<\/p>\n<p>The project includes the construction of 28 new technical buildings in the L\u00e6rdal tunnel, which will require blasting and securing rock chambers; emergency lay-bys near the buildings and the expansion of emergency turning bays in the tunnel; new lighting and emergency lights; and upgraded ventilation.<\/p>\n<p>The tunnel, which carries approximately 2,100 vehicles per day, will initially be closed at night to allow works to be carried out.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is scheduled to commence in November, with completion planned for 2029.<\/p>\n<p>The L\u00e6rdal Tunnel opened in November 2000 and is part of the TEN-T road network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kanska has been appointed to upgrade Norway\u2019s L\u00e6rdal Tunnel \u2013 the world\u2019s longest road tunnel.
