Sharjah-based contractor Al-Marwan Contracting<\/a> begins tunnel construction in the Al-Taawun area of the emirate.<\/p>\n

The project is part of the $204m new roads programme linking Sharjah with Dubai<\/p><\/div>\n

The 500-metre-long tunnel will run beneath the Al-Taawun roundabout. It will feature three lanes in each direction, connecting Al-Taawun Street to Al-Nahda Bridge and, subsequently, to Dubai.<\/p>\n

The project will feature a signalized intersection capable of handling about 4,200 vehicles an hour in each direction.<\/p>\n

The tunnel will also provide access to Expo Centre Sharjah, Dubai and will form part of a transport corridor linking it to Al-Noor Road.<\/p>\n

The Al-Taawun tunnel project is the centrepiece of the broader AED750m ($204m) road development programme in Sharjah, which was formally announced by\u00a0Sultan Bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah.<\/p>\n

The programme consists of a network of tunnels, bridges\u00a0and several intersection upgrades.<\/p>\n
