{"id":19059,"date":"2025-05-21T06:26:59","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T06:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=19059"},"modified":"2025-05-21T06:26:59","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T06:26:59","slug":"7th-breakthrough-of-tata-on-chennai-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=19059","title":{"rendered":"\u200a7th breakthrough of Tata on Chennai Metro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail project has achieved to its 11th breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following completing the 867m drive from Ayanavaram Station,TBM Kalvarayan (S 1331) arrived in the south shaft of Perambur Station last week and it was the seventh TBM breakthrough by Tata Projects on contract TU-01.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Considering that the drive between Ayanavaram and Perambur was a complex tunnel section with major challenges,TBM Kalvarayan passed beneath the railway tracks and platforms at Perambur Railway Station and densely populated areas, and navigated more than 32 bore wells along the alignment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Benefiting seven TBMs for the excavation, Tata Projects is constructing the first 9km underground section of Corridor 3 from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Kellys. On August 29 previous ear Tata Projects made the sixth breakthrough when TBM Kolli completed the 903m drive from Ayanavaram Station to Otteri Station.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Being inaugurated\u00a0 in 2019, the 45km Chennai Metro Rail Phase I includes a 9km, nine-station extension that was started up in 2022, whereas Phase II is a 118.9km network with 128 stations and comprises three corridors: Corridor 3 from Madhavaram to Sipcot (45.8km); Corridor 4 From Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1km); and Corridor 5 from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47km).
