In order to rebuilding the wastewater treatment plant in Henriksdal, Stockholm, Sweden, an additional contract worth SEK368m ($34.3m)\u00a0 has been awarded to Swedish construction firm Peab by Stockholm Vatten och Avfall.<\/p>\n
While the responsibility of\u00a0 operating Stockholm\u2019s future wastewater treatment project is up to Stockholm Vatten och Avfal, it involves a new sewage tunnel from Bromma to the Sickla plant in Hammarbybacken, a new Sickla plant, and rebuilding Henriksdal existing basins.<\/p>\n
As an option within the existing agreement, Peab is due to rebuild the plant to install a new, improved biological treatment process as part of this project.<\/p>\n
Demolition, decontamination, as well as the construction of new basins, are the contents of this work and it is going to be carried out at the underground plant in Henrikdalsberget while it remains in operation throughout the upgrade.<\/p>\n
The initial value of the contract that was granted to Peab for this project was SEK254m to rebuild this wastewater treatment plant in March 2021.<\/p>\n
According to Peab region manager Carl Johan S\u00f6derberg: “We\u2019re pleased with the continued confidence in us from Stockholm Vatten och Avfall and that now we\u2019ll begin to work on rebuilding Henriksdal\u2019s Wastewater Treatment Plant.Through continued good cooperation we\u2019ll make sure that the treatment plant functions with minimal disruption during construction.”<\/p>\n
The scheduled date for starting the work is April 2025 and is planned for completion by spring 2028.<\/p>\n
Being constructed in the 1930s in rock above the ground, Henriksdal wastewater treatment plant underwent several upgrades as Stockholm expanded.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Linking by two 1km tunnels, the plant has two facilities, Henriksdal and Sickla.<\/p>\n
The intetion of ongoing Stockholm Future Wastewater treatment (SFA) project is to double its capacity to serve 1.6 million people and for building an underground wastewater treatment plant Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) concluded a ten-year SEK3bn loan with the City of Stockholm in 2016.<\/p>\n
The project also involves decommissioning the Bromma plant, freeing land for development. Wastewater will be directed to the expanded Henriksdal plant through the new 14km Bromma Tunnel, which is also blasted into the rock beneath Stockholm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
