{"id":13603,"date":"2023-11-07T12:43:47","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T12:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=13603"},"modified":"2023-11-07T12:43:47","modified_gmt":"2023-11-07T12:43:47","slug":"queensland-hydro-opening-eoi-for-tunneling-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=13603","title":{"rendered":"Queensland Hydro &#8211; Opening EOI for Tunneling Works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In order to advancing the underground works on the Borumba pumped hydro energy project, <a href=\"https:\/\/qldhydro.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queensland Hydro<\/a> is calling for Expressions of Interest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Using controlled blast and drilling methods, the tunnel drilling package will involve the digging of soil and rock, which is better than TBM to form a D-shaped tunnel leading to the proposed site of the underground powerhouse cavern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Considering that a detailed understanding of ground conditions is required to inform detailed design of the project and how it is best delivered, this tunneling is going to complement surface geological investigations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following completion, the excavated tunnel will be repurposed to become a permanent cable tunnel and the works is slated to be accompanied by the required environmental approvals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EOI release follows the co-ordinator-general\u2019s coordinated project declaration on October 12, signaling the start of the assessment of social, economic and environmental matters before the Borumba Project\u2019s Main Works can begin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Construction of a new upper reservoir, as well as a new dam wall to replace the existing Borumba Dam wall and increase Lake Borumba\u2019s storage capacity from 46 to 224 gigalitres, are the contents of this project with A$14.2bn (\u00a37.4bn) value.
