The contents of this project with A$14.2bn (\u00a37.4bn) value, which is being developed by Queensland Hydro, are building a new upper reservoir, as well as a new dam wall to replace the existing Borumba Dam wall and increase Lake Borumba\u2019s storage capacity from 46 to 224 gigalitres. Additionally, in order to transferring water between the upper and lower reservoirs, as well as cable and access tunnels, the project is due to include an underground power station and pump turbines, and underground tunnels.<\/p>\n
As one of Queensland\u2019s largest clean energy projects, it will have the capacity to generate 2GW of electricity.<\/p>\n
The scheduled date for commencing construction is 2025, whereas exploratory drilling is under way and geotechnical investigations are also advancing on Queensland\u2019s Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro Project. The pumped hydro scheme will have a 5GW capacity.<\/p>\n
According to Queensland Hydro report in September, over than 500m of core samples had been collected and logged from 10 sites, and digging had started on the first deep geotechnical hole.<\/p>\n
