{"id":12325,"date":"2023-08-02T11:02:08","date_gmt":"2023-08-02T11:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=12325"},"modified":"2023-08-02T11:02:08","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T11:02:08","slug":"atkins-wins-hong-kong-reservoir-relocation-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=12325","title":{"rendered":"Atkins Wins Hong Kong Reservoir Relocation Contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atkins.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atkins<\/a> has received a design and engineering services contract for relocating two reservoirs in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The contract is granted by Chun Wo, Sinohydro Joint Venture, and will support the Relocation of Diamond Hill Fresh Water and Salt Water Service Reservoirs to the Caverns project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The scheme intends to boost Hong Kong\u2019s sustainable development by improving the use of rock caverns as a conceivable source of long-term land supply.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lion Rock, located in the east of Kowloon in Diamond Hill, Hong Kong, has been recognized by the Water Supplies Department as a pivotal location for relocating government facilities to caverns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The relocations will enable areas presently occupied by fresh water and saltwater service reservoirs to be discharged for housing and other critical facilities while providing adequate and quality water supply for surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atkins will deliver detailed design consultancy services during the construction phase for cost-saving design (CSD) as part of the contract, comprising cavern structure layout, construction blasting assessment, and tunnel internal structures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The adopted cost-saving design, integrating 3D geological modeling with constructing information modeling, will assist with developing effective cavern layouts, guaranteeing strategic cavern areas are optimized to create more land for housing requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wing Law, Atkins Asia&#8217;s chief executive, pointed out: \u201cWith over 50 years of presence in Asia, we have established a solid reputation for delivering complex water and tunneling projects by providing our engineering excellence and world-class expertise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He continued: \u201cThis project will play a key role in supporting Hong Kong\u2019s socio-economic development by optimizing the supply of land use and providing cost-effective residential areas.
