{"id":11599,"date":"2023-05-29T07:43:43","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T07:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=11599"},"modified":"2023-05-29T07:43:43","modified_gmt":"2023-05-29T07:43:43","slug":"sbb-consults-on-second-zurich-winterthur-route","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunnelingworld.com\/?p=11599","title":{"rendered":"SBB Consults on Second Z\u00fcrich \u2013 Winterthur Route"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbb.ch\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Swiss Federal Railways<\/a> is to launch a public consultation on projects to construct a new double-track line containing a 9 km tunnel which, along with the current route, would deliver a total of four tracks between Z\u00fcrich and Winterthur.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new alignment would present faster journey times and a 30% growth in capacity to promote an upsurge in services to 900 S-Bahn and long-distance trains per day on the route.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">MehrSpur Z\u00fcrich\u2013Winterthur is the biggest project within the federal government\u2019s Ausbauschritt 2035 rail investment program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The principal element of the project would be building the Br\u00fcttener tunnel to deliver a more direct route than the current line. Developed for 160 km\/h running, this would have two 10 m diameter single track bores connected by 20 cross passages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The northern end of the tunnel would be at T\u00f6ssm\u00fchle near Winterthur. Near the southern end, the tunnel would divide into branches, one towards Bassersdorf and the airport and the other to Dietlikon and Z\u00fcrich HB.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new alignment would incorporate flying junctions with the current lines. Stations like Dietlikon, Bassersdorf, Wallisellen and Winterthur T\u00f6ss would be modernized as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The journey times between Z\u00fcrich Stadelhofen and Winterthur would be cut by 2 to 4 min and from Z\u00fcrich Flughafen to Winterthur by 3 to 4 min. Nevertheless, the most rapid services between Z\u00fcrich HB and Winterthur over the new alignment would take 16 min.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When the government gives the green light for the project, a standard timescale for construction is to be drawn up.
