Sydney Metro – Launching Victoria Cross Station

Sydney Metro - Victoria Cross Station

Considering the commissioning of power at the first of seven underground Sydney Metro City & Southwest station, service start of the next step for customers will be 2024.

While high voltage power systems required to operate Victoria Cross Station have now been installed, tested and commissioned after the recent completion of all track laying through the tunnels, around seven kilometers of high voltage power cables were laid in the station. Also, following installation of the final high voltage cables required to power metro services between Chatswood and Sydenham, laying process of further 80 kilometers of low-voltage electricity cables and eight kilometers of communications cables within the station precinct are implementing.

Due to provision of over than 95 kilometers of high voltage copper cables to power to all stations, once these cables are turned on, they will supply power to all electrical equipment in the station buildings, cross passages and trackside equipment, as well as powering the trains.

The determined date for launching the new trains is 2023 and services commencing through the city is 2024, hence power to the rest of the stations is due to be turned on in the coming months.
