Pitt Street Station Taking form Under Sydney CBD

Pitt Street Station Escalators

Posing up to 20 meters under the Sydney central business district, the new Pitt Street Station is achieving landmarks every day, forward the services starting on Sydney Metro City & Southwest in 2024.

The team has made considerable headway on the station fit-out, with the southern station structure finished, and new platform screen doors already in place.

At present, five out of six escalators at the Pitt Street south site are installed. The final escalator is said to be installed by the end of the year.

These escalators take more than 120 hours to install, vary from 19 meters to 38.5 meters long and weigh between 10.5 and 19.5 tons.

Eight additional escalators will be installed at the Pitt Street Station north site over the coming months. However, the façade and fit-out of the south site structure will continue into the new year.

Totally, 117 precast façade panels are being installed at the south site – weighing from 1.7 tons to 11 tons each. About 80 glass-reinforced concrete façade panels are also being installed, which will be between 2 to 3 tons each.

Once Pitt Street Station becomes operational in 2024, it will have two entrances – Park Street to the north and Bathurst Street to the south.

The station will support taking the pressure off the current CBD train stations and takes customers to Barangaroo in four minutes, and Victoria Cross in seven minutes.
