The third and final contract has been signed, and Sydney Metro‘s Peter Regan and Angela Jeffrey discuss all things Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport.
A new metro rail system will be a major transportation corridor for Greater Western Sydney, connecting communities and travelers to the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport.
More than 14,000 construction jobs will be supported during the construction of the city-shaping project, which will run from St Mary’s through to the new airport and the Western Sydney Aeropolis.
This 23-kilometer railway will connect residential areas to job hubs, including the new Aeropolis, as well as connect passengers to the rest of Sydney’s public transportation system.
Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project contracts have been awarded by the Australian and NSW governments. A tunneling contract for the construction of the new twin metro rail tunnels was awarded to the Ghella CPB Contractors Joint Venture in December 2021.
The rail system that shapes cities
Providing an integrated transportation system for Western Parkland City relies on Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport. There are several established centers within Western Parkland City, including Greater Penrith, Liverpool, and Campbelltown-Macarthur.
By 2031, the airport is expected to support nearly 28,000 direct and indirect jobs and contribute to the development of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, in the heart of Western Parkland City.
It is anticipated that the Aerotropolis will generate approximately 200,000 new jobs in sectors such as aerospace and defence, manufacturing, freight and logistics, tourism, and research.
