A Consortium of Webuild, Ghella Win Trento Tunnel Contract

Trento Tunnel and Rail Bypass

In order to advance the design and construction of a rail bypass project in Trento, Italy, a contract has been awarded to a consortium of Webuild, Ghella and Collini.

Including construction of the around 10.6km-long Trento Tunnel, and two short sections above ground alongside the existing line, the Lot 3A contract with €934m (US$999m) that was granted by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana of state rail operator Gruppo FS Italiane comprises works for around 13km of rail line. With daily advance of 15-20m, four TBMs are due to dig the tunnel, with two working at either end.

As part of the southern access to the Brenner Base Tunnel, the bypass is a component of quadrupling capacity of the Fortezza-Verona section of the high-speed railway and a strategic project for Italy’s development of sustainable transport under the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience.

While the Webuild’s share is 51% in the consortium, subsidiary SELI has a 4% stake, Ghella 35% and Collini 10%.
